Scottish committee
The Scottish Committee of the AJTC consists of:
- the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration;
- the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman;
- the two or three members of the AJTC who are appointed by the Scottish Ministers; and
- three or four other persons, not being members of the AJTC, appointed by the Scottish Ministers.
The Scottish Committee has a particular interest in administrative justice and tribunals in Scotland, including those UK-wide tribunals which sit in Scotland, and some twenty tribunals which are constituted under separate Scottish legislation. These cover a wide range of subjects including education appeal committees, mental health tribunals for Scotland, additional support needs tribunals for Scotland and National Health Service discipline committees in Scotland as well as those tribunals which exist only in Scotland such as children's hearings.
The Scottish Committee deals directly with the Scottish Government in considering and commenting upon proposals coming before the Scottish Parliament and Committee members formulate the Scottish input to UK-wide matters being considered by the AJTC itself.
The Committee produces its own Annual Report to the Scottish Ministers which is laid before the Scottish Parliament. Its formal meetings take place at its offices in Edinburgh.
